Time flies, I remember when I transfered to Alameda Community Learning Center a few months into 7th grade, and now I’m a senior. Before I attended to ACLC, I had heard a lot of rumors about it, people were telling me that how good the school was, how people are going to good UCs by graduating from the school, and the free periods. So I didn’t think I would have survive here. ACLC is also the first school that I attended in America. These few years have been a rollercoaster, the first week of the school was definitely the scariest week since I had no friends there, and I didn’t speak the same language as other students. I had a really hard time communicating with people. After the first week, everything have changed, I’m starting to get use to the new environment, I also made a lot of new friends. Comparing the schools that I went to, ACLC is really free, ACLC gives me the opportunity to manage my time in free periods, ACLC is the school that makes me think that school can be fun too.

 

After all these years at ACLC, I have learned a lot. Like I said before, ACLC gave me an opportunity to learn how to manage my time, I can either choose chill or relax during free periods or I can just finish all my homework, then relax at home. Free periods are definitely the charms of ACLC, which makes ACLC different from other schools. I had learned a lot from all the facilitators. We don’t have to take all the core classes 5 times a week, and instead of having a lot of homeworks, we have group projects. ACLC often have social activities, which gives the opportunity for us learners to know each other, I think that is the reason why I’m not as shy as before. Since our school is not very big, I know most of the learner's name.

I had improved my thinking and reasoning skills a lot by reading, and annotating all the books from my English class. Not only English class, I have also improved my skills by doing all the science projects, math projects, history projects. ACLC is a very unique school, you can almost learn something new from every little thing that ACLC have.

 

ACLC is a school that teaches learners skills in all aspects. Because of CCC, the whole school will meet at the gym in the morning every Wednesday, that is one of the reasons why I know most of the learners. ACLC provide us an opportunity to interact with younger and older learners, because of that, I have improved my interpersonal ability from these few years at ACLC, that is also the reason why I love ACLC.

 

Computing has always been my favorite subject, even before I went to school, I always use it in my free time. I remember in 7th grade, when I first walked into the center, I was blown away by the fact that they let learners use computers during school days, because back then I only use computers to play games, and I never knew that we will actually need computers to do homework. Throughout all these years in ACLC, I have learned how to create presentations with Prezi and Powerpoint, and I also had alot of experience with Microsoft word, Excel, Access, I'm sure that will be really helpful in the future.
